I am terrible at keeping a journal and could use some overall improvement in the "communication" department. So I figured I would try a little experiment. Can I create one blog post per week in 2017?
This is something I wanted to do when Duke was born, as a way of keeping track of all his amazing accomplishments, funny moments, and lessons learned. That didn't quite happen, but I'm only 15 months late in getting this off the ground!
So to go along with the new year and a "New Year's Resolution" of sorts, I figure it is time to put my thoughts down on (digital) paper on a weekly basis. With friends and family living across the country (and most not anywhere near Denver), for those that do read this, hopefully this is a fun way to see what Lauren, Duke, and I are up to. But mostly, this is for me to look back on as Duke (and other kids??!!) are older.
My plan is to post photos, videos, and share stories about what we are all up to. I hope to share some Dad tips as well, so I can help out the many new dads I know, along with reading back through this to seek advice myself, in the future.
Week Recap:
Lauren and I returned from a great Christmas trip to Florida! It had been 9 months since we were in Florida (for Danielle + Jordan's wedding), so it was only the first or second time most friends and family back home got to see/meet Duke. It was also his first real beach experience, and from the photos below, it's safe to see he is a beach dude!
We look forward to our next trip to Florida in March, and more beach time of course!
Once back in Denver, and after trying to adjust to the 60 degree temperature swing... Lauren and I celebrated New Year's Eve by renting a movie (The Good Guys - which was actually pretty funny and good) and staying up until 10:30 pm! That's two hours more than we made it last year (with a 3 month old). Maybe next year we will see the ball drop once again :-)
And along with this weekly blog, I have a few other "goals" for 2017 I'd like to share. I will speak to these in various ways throughout the year, and use this public listing as a nice little way to keep myself accountable.
1. Blog (w/ video and photos)
2. Read nightly (even for just 5 minutes and switch between "fun" and "business" books)
3. Volunteer
4. Be more present/live in the now
5. Strive for a more healthy lifestyle with exercise and cooking/eating
6. Seek out more experiences vs. purchases
Cheers to a great 2017!
